Most overseas rowers (especially full time rowers) are excellent athlete. Rowing requires both aerobic & inaerobic as well as explosive & endurance muscle. Hence, during off season, rowers usually goes for mountain biking, triathlons, runs etc. They are good in those as rowing itself are demanding enough. A complete session of rowing would require - on water training(boat); ergometer (indoor rowing); gym (strength endurance/explosives); additional steps running (Batu Caves) & occasionally running.
This post is just to bring a closer look into this well-known sports worldwide, but not here in Malaysia. Unless we are able to bring medal for Malaysia, it would be a just-another-sport here.
Back to rowing; it would be an excellent form of exercise if you would like to cross train. From rowing itself, at times I felt it helped me alot in other sports especially trail running & biking. Its movement would require usage of major leg muscle (quads etc) ; then core & body. It acts like a mini gym session as well when you row. Its movement is always leg-hand-core(pull) then core-hand-leg(release); hence an overall body workout. Unlike running/biking which is injury prone, rowing is free of impact.
Guess how i survived my accident? It was through rowing that I tried maintaining my form. Though da lembek skang, still, it helped me from ballooning =) I was equally shocked when I thought it was almost impossible to maintain my weight (cepat gemuk; actually suka makan); but i nailed it. Though still heavy, i think at least i prevented from being fatter.
Go & try out ergometer (indoor rowing) for those who has gym access. As the machines there are seldom used. An hour of rowing is equivalent to burning calories of 1 hr's run. For further info, try rowing these websites (hehe, try surfing)..

Hi Diket, unfortunately rowing on water is not easily assessible as tak banyak tempat ada. Batu Dam & putrajaya je provide those. only putrajaya is opened for public. However, i want to promote indoor rowing (ergometer) as they can be found at most of the big gyms. Sayangnya org tak reti guna. If you happened to be a gym member, go N try out. if not, i can plan out something nanti =)
