Felt like being cheated...

Being as naive as I am, I have been cheated/almost cheated a few times. Yup, kind of embarrassing telling tales like these, sort of washing dirty linen in public. But I guess it is worth telling if it helps the other as well.

Once, I had this scam phone call, saying that my credit card was being used at a jewelery shop in KLIA. I panicked, & almost followed their instruction to change my banking details at ATM machines. This was said to stop the scammer from accessing my whole banking details, as they already had my details through the credit. This apparently is from the bank negara staff & jabatan siasatan faulty credit card. Luckily hub was in time to save me.

Then, I fell straight right into an online purchase for some stuff. Deposits being made, only awaits shipment. Kind of knew the deal was too good to be true, but went on anyway. My instinct failed to stop me there. And obviously the shipment had not arrived. I was being hopeful that there might be problem with the shipment, but the fact was too painful to be swallowed. The seller was just uncontactable & the whole deal was a scam. Guess I had my lesson the hard way.

After that, again, had this sales person coming to sell some membership. Their promises seemed rosy, deals were cheap. And it is refundable if we are not satisfied. This time around, internal alarm kept tinkling but still, went ahead & deposit downpayment to secure the deal. Went back home recap the whole incident & decided to cancel it.

What the salesperson conveniently forgot to inform was, the whole refunding process & its' hassle. So we went back for refund. Quite knew it would be hard; hence we did the bad-good cop thing. I would be the good cop, while hub be the bad one. He would be the aggressive, loud, no-nonsence guy who demands a refund; while i be the goody-2-shoe girl who will pacify stuff around. Arriving at scene, the role play was swapped. I suddenly became the crazy lady & demand the refund now. Or not, I would mengamuk while hub was the calm & steady pacifier. We somehow managed to get hold of our deposit instead of going through the whole refunding hassle, which require us to go to their office happened to be far away from our location.

The important message here is, anything too good to be true is not true. As chinese proverbs, no frogs jumping around freely (frogs btw are delicious & nutritious as well & expensive). Think & evaluate before you decide. It is always when I was in a rush, & did not manage to think quite well beforehand that it happened. Hope that this would be the last lesson for me.
